WHAT IS LOW VISION?
Someone who is struggling to achieve the level of vision they require through regular glasses is described as having low vision. Low vision is often a result of eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy.
Low vision affects a person’s ability to enjoy every day tasks such as:
-
Using a computer, mobile phone or tablet
-
Reading books, newspapers or letters
-
Watching television
-
Recognising faces
-
Reading signs in the distance.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A LOW VISION ASSESSMENT?
We will conduct a thorough eye examination and test of your vision to assess your prescription for near and far viewing.
We will then demonstrate a variety of visual aids to carefully select an appropriate solution for the types of tasks you are struggling with. Visual aids can range from high powered spectacles to hand held or stand magnifiers and digital magnifiers.
