WHAT IS RETINAL IMAGING?
Digital retinal imaging is the act of taking a digital photograph of the inside of the eye including the retina, optic nerve, macula, and blood vessels.
It adds another layer of precision to your eye examination so that we can take better care of your eyes.
The extensive view of your eye means that we are able to detect the earliest signs of ocular problems and health conditions such as:
-
Macular degeneration
-
Glaucoma
-
High blood pressure
-
Diabetes.
The photograph is quick, painless and non-invasive.
THE BENEFITS
A number of diseases like those above can cause damage to the retina but as they often start so slowly, and without symptoms, you may not notice anything wrong until it has properly taken hold.
The longer these problems are left untreated, however, the more long-term damage they can do to your eyes and your vision.
By taking images of your retina at every appointment, we are able to keep these on your file and compare them between examinations to check for any differences in appearance or signs of potential issues.
Should there be any early indications of developing conditions, we can then determine and prescribe effective treatment to stop any damage in its tracks.
